Follow the instructions below to send and
receive SMS (text) messages to and from WX2ME. If you experience
problems after following the instructions provided consult
your phone's user manual or carrier as the process varies
by phone.
The actual process of sending an SMS (text) message varies
by phone model and carrier, however, it always involves
the following steps:
- From your phone's MENU select Messages, Messaging,
Text Messaging, SMS or your phone's equivalent
(generally an envelope icon denotes this menu option)
- Select Text Messages or SMS (with some
phones this step is not required)
- Select Write/Create New Message
- Enter phone number: (514) 961 3026 (WX2ME's phone
number)(no long distance
charges apply in the USA or Canada)
If you have already saved WX2ME's number in your cell
phone select Browse or Find and then locate
the entry.
- Compose the request for aviation weather report (the
message):
Enter M or T to indcate METAR or TAF followed by a space
and then the ICAO or IATA code or name for the weather
station (e.g. M DEN, M KDEN, T DEN, T KDEN, M DENVER).
You must leave a space between the M or T and the code.
Normally, you use the 0 or Arrow key to make a space.
Enter the text by tapping on the phone's keypad until
the appropriate letters appear using the TAP method (tap
once for the first letter on the key, twice for the second
letter, etc...).
If unwanted letters show up on your screen you may need
to turn off the "predictive text" (T9 or iTAP)
function of your phone by tapping the # key or changing
"text entry method" in the options menu.
- Hit the Send or Done key
Note: steps 4 and 5 may be reversed on some phone models
(notably Nokia phones)
The actual process of receiving an SMS (text)
message varies by phone but is generally characterized by
the following:
Message notification:
- A short tone is sounded and the phone vibrates (unless
the phone is in silent mode or message notifications have
been turned off)
- A notification appears on the phone screen indicating
New Text Message or Message Received
- An icon (usually an envelope) appears on the phone to
indicate the receipt of a text message
To view the message: Select Open or View
if displayed.
If you are not given one of these options, or to view a
message that you have already seen, you must open your phone's
message Inbox by selecting: Messages from
the main menu, followed by Text/SMS Messages, followed
by Inbox. When you have opened your inbox scroll
to the message you would like to view and select Open
or View.
